Showtime looks for Homeland, Ray Donovan viewers from the ground floor
If you head over to this link, you can watch the entire Homeland season 1 premiere episode before the show returns for season 7 on Sunday. Obviously it’s impossible to watch six full seasons of television in just over a day, but maybe this brings you on the road to eventually jumping on board one of TV’s strongest shows. It’s actually kind of interesting looking back at Homeland season 1 now given that it was such a different show. For starters, Damian Lewis was one of the main focuses and the state of terrorism both in the United States and around the globe was so much different. There’s a lot more internal strife now than there was so many years ago, and many of the dangers stem now from technology and paranoia.
In addition to Homeland, Showtime also has up the premiere episodes for both Ray Donovan and I’m Dying Up Here, just in case you want to watch those shows from the beginning. The renewal of the latter series is the one that did take the most people by surprise back when it happened, mostly for the reason that this was not something that the ratings indicated would be coming.
All of these movies by Showtime can ultimately be described using just one simple word: Smart. It makes a great deal of sense to court as many viewers as humanly possible, regardless of whether or nor not they are paying for just one episode. If this move just leads to another 10-20 new subscribers, then that is a good bit of money that they didn’t have previously. It probably didn’t quire all that much effort to get some of these episodes online so in that sense, it’s fairly easy to consider much of this a win.
