Super Bowl commercials 2018: Budweiser, Skylar Grey focus on water relief
Budweiser is a company that has long been known for making simple, emotional ads that really pull at the heartstrings. They do this on this occasion with Skylar Grey’s cover of “Stand By Me” and a focus on all of the giving back that the company does to help people in need.
The premise – This is pretty simple: When there are natural disasters, Budweiser and their parent company is known for bringing in thousands of cases of water. They have delivered tens of millions of cans of it over the course of the past several decades, and this past year alone they helped Puerto Rico, Texas, California, and Florida when they needed them.
Brand recognition – There’s never a second during this commercial where you think this is about anyone other than Budweiser. The messaging is simply everywhere from start to finish.

Creativity – This really isn’t so much about creativity as it is a company knowing what makes it appealing to viewers: Americana. Budweiser, perhaps more so than any beer, is thought of as nostalgic or sentimental. It’s the beer that’s been a part of your life for ages, just as it’s the beer that is proud to be American and help others in need.
Our overall grade – A. It may not be revolutionary but it doesn’t really need to be. This is a good advertisement for the brand since it forges a connection to the audience, but it is also does illuminate more of the work the company does behind the scenes, which often doesn’t get the attention you would think that it should.
