Bud Light Super Bowl commercial 2018: Bud Knight is born
Bud Light is the focus of this article, and we’re talking here about the birth of a new character: The Bud Knight. His story is a bold one, of a powerful warrior who serves the purpose getting beer for any friend who needs it.
The premise – Right in the middle of an epic battle, the Bud Knight shows up in order to save the day … or so the fighters think. Really, he’s just off to Ye Olde Liquor Store to get some beer for his friends. Eventually, he does end up stopping the battle in about two seconds and everyone wonders why he didn’t just do that sooner.
Brand recognition – Even before the Bud Knight showed up you probably had a feeling that this was a commercial for the beer brand; after all, their ads are all incredibly unique and super-memorable. There’s plenty of messaging throughout.

Creativity – The entire first thirty seconds of this ad were absolutely genius, culminating in the moment where the Knight goes and gets the beer rather than dealing with the battle. That’s where it should have ended. This was an extremely funny premise that gets totally muddled in extending this out to a full moment. Someone at Bud Light got too cute and didn’t realize that less is more.
Our overall grade – B-. A wonderful idea gets completely ruined by a brand who, unfortunately, doesn’t quite know when to stop. Sometimes Bud Light in general needs to learn how to curtail many of their ads. If they were to do that, they’d absolutely be in a much better spot.
