Should Bull season 2 end with a longer story arc?

Bull season 2 episode 7

We should star this article off with another reminder that there is no new episode of Bull season 2 on the air tonight. What gives? Well, it’s really simple: The State of the Union is airing on all broadcast networks tonight and that means, effectively, that there isn’t a whole lot in the way of new programming anywhere. If you hate politics, you better believe that this is going to be a night that is all about watching things on your DVR.

So, for now, let’s take a look a little bit down the road towards the end of the season. How should the sun set for Bull this season? We understand the temptation of casting a big-name guest star and just elevating the stakes for one episode at the end of the season, but we’re really not sure that this is enough. Bull needs to figure out a way to do more than that. It has to take things to another level and show more stakes and drama.

Basically, the challenge at the end of this season is to put Bull in a situation that he hasn’t been in before, whether it be a challenge within the courtroom or an emotional struggle outside of it.

What we’d recommend is that we need to see Bull struggle with something in his own life, and it needs to be something that lasts more than just one episode. He’s excellent at isolating himself at all costs and separating himself from his feelings. He did that in his marriage, and we think that he’s done that with other people in his life. What if something happens to himself, or one of the members of the TAC that he cares about on some sort of level? That’s something that is worth exploring. Give the show time to dive into that struggle, give us a broken Bull, and then see how he finds a way to climb out of it. You want to give Michael Weatherly a chance to rock the most interesting material possible.

More than anything, we consider finales to be a culmination of the entire season that comes before it. As a result of that, we don’t want to just see Bull end with an ordinary episode. It needs to be something bigger and bolder, an arc that really sums up the journey that we’ve been on with Dr. Jason Bull for most of the season. The same goes for some of the other characters on the show — one of the real selling points of the second season so far is that we’ve had a chance to care so much more for the supporting cast.
