Shameless season 9 premiere date hopes for Emmy Rossum, cast
Let’s begin here with this: It’s a sure thing that a Shameless season 9 is happening. The network renewed the Emmy Rossum – William H. Macy series for a ninth season early on into the season, which was a pretty significant moment in that this is something that Showtime often doesn’t do. Whether it be Weeds or Dexter, most Showtime series tend to fade away after eight seasons on the air. There’s already talk that Homeland could end after season 8, as well. The reason that Shameless is still going seems to be just because it is more popular now than it has ever been. The eighth season has generated very good live viewership, but to go belong that it also remains somewhat of a ratings warrior in terms of DVR measurement. Bringing the show onto Netflix, a rare move for a premium-cable property, has actually paid off dividends. More viewers have discovered the show and those viewers, in turn, have become Showtime subscribers.
As for how long the series could last, network boss David Nevins already made it clear that we could be seeing the Gallaghers stick around for however long the show’s still profitable and they all still want to do it. With that in mind, it doesn’t appear as though there is a specific end in sight for the series at the moment. Maybe that changes at some point in the next year or two but we’re not there now. (Our feeling is that Shameless season 10 could be the last one — we do think that there are at least two more years in the tank for this series.)
When could the Shameless season 9 premiere date be?
Showtime found some success programming the season over the course of fall / winter, and we don’t foresee there being a reason to change that for season 9. This gives them quality programming at a time when few other networks have any, and this also enables them to avoid most of the beastly competition on the air in February including the Super Bowl.
