Chicago Fire: Should Cruz and Brett get back together?

Cruz and Brett

Mrs. Carter: Could Cruz and Brett get back together on Chicago Fire season 6?

We’ll admit that going into Thursday night’s new episode of the NBC series, this was really not something that was on our radar all that much. We’ve always liked these two characters around each other, but it’s been so long since their first relationship and there was, admittedly, a part of us that almost forgot they were even together way back when.

The key word here is that aforementioned sentence was “almost.” There has always still be something there, even if it was just a friendly affection. They care about each other, but they’ve moved forward and are at very different places in their lives now than they were way back when.

The question you have to ask here, first and foremost, is whether or not the relationship does make sense. Logistically, yes. They are a part of the same show, they live together, and they spend plenty of time together at word. From a writing perspective it’s easy to have them together and it makes some sense given that there were feelings there.

Yet, the issue we wonder is whether or not Brett is in a place where those feelings can be reciprocated. She and Antonio just split apart again, and while we do think she’s open for love we’re not sure she wants to given the current living situation. If things going south, it could cause life to become very awkward at Firehouse 51. Also, is Cruz too firmly in the friend zone now?

The thing that we know, above all, is this: We want these two characters to be happy, and if it’s with each other, that’s more than fine by us. We loved Brettonio but we also have a lot of fun with Brett and Cruz. We feel like we’ve already been pretty public with our declaration that Cruz and Otis are, overall, our favorite Chicago Fire characters.
