Criminal Minds season 13: Could Garvez (Luke and Garcia) actually happen?
Maybe it’s a little bit early to answer that question, but it is absolutely the hottest ‘ship going on Criminal Minds. The writers have done a very good job over time of building up this ‘ship and making it feel like something special. Back during Adam Rodriguez’s first season on the show, we were 100% skeptical as to whether or not this was something that could work. For one, the writing kept pointing in the direction of Garcia hating Luke and not really wanting anything to do with him. That has slowly turned around over time and we’re now at a point where we’re starting to think that the connection between the two of them could be something special. They do care about each other, and the whole situation with Luke and Lisa recently helped us to realize more that Garcia knows and cares about him better than anyone — even if she does have her moments of social awkwardness.
There are times when we do think that ‘shippers can go a little bit crazy with some of the desired pairings. Yet, for Criminal Minds it feels like the right time. This has never been a show to really push the workplace romances heavily, and we don’t think one popping up after so many years is a bad thing at all. It could add another dimension to the series and give longtime fans something else to discuss and look forward to seeing. It could also convince viewers to watch live week after week — as of right now, there aren’t all that many through-lines to keep people watching from one week to the next beyond the case of the week. Allow these two to build something — they’re both worthy of happiness and it wouldn’t take away from the typical structure of the show in the slightest.

Look at things this way — because Garcia is not in the field, there’s not anything all that much to worry about when it comes to Luke’s possible feelings for her getting in the way of the job. We know that there are shows out there who try to hide behind that. (We’re looking at you, Blue Bloods.)
