Why Once Upon a Time season 7 should bring back Sean Maguire’s Robin before finale

With there being a different Robin on Once Upon a Time season 7, we felt the need to qualify this story a little bit more than some of the others that we have in the past. Here, we’re talking about Sean Maguire’s Robin, a fantastic character who played a major role in many seasons of the show. He was a great love for Regina Mills, but beyond that a father, a friend for many characters on the show, and also a hero for many viewers to look up to.

Unfortunately, Robin was killed off well over a year ago and it’s still a tough one to digest. The death of this character remains one of the most painful ones in the series’ history. We still wish that it didn’t happen and that there was a way to bring that character back.

Well … is there? We’re not going to go through the ways in which that could happen, mostly because it’s up to the showrunners if they really want to figure out a way to get themselves out of this tricky writing pickle. Instead, the larger question for us is whether or not there is some way in which to bring Maguire back for more stint on the show — especially if this is the final season.

Recently, we wrote a similar article on Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas, and what we had to say there was pretty simple: These are characters who are essential to the series’ overall identity. Because of that, it makes little to no sense to exclude them. The best thing that the Once Upon a Time producers could do, given that the show’s future beyond season 7 is unclear, is try to figure out in a way to offer proper closure in the event that the end is near. The best way in which the show can wrap up the story is by honoring its past. Bring back past characters in some capacity, including Robin, and remind us of the great journey that got you here.

Maguire’s Robin is a huge part of that journey. He can remind Regina of the past while encouraging her to have the best possible future. Even if he doesn’t come back to life, wouldn’t it be nice to still see him in a dream sequence? We would just like the original Robin to be the last one to appear on the show after the wish-world story played out recently.
