Chicago Med season 3 episode 8 review: Dr. Rhodes makes a big move
Basically, what we saw from Dr. Rhodes tonight was him deciding to donate over $100,000 to the hospital’s charitable fun, mostly as a means to keep one of his patients (a struggling comedian balancing multiple jobs) from being forced over to County and put into a situation where she could not afford much of the bills that would be coming her way. It is a remarkable gesture for him to make and we’d question the soul of anyone who was to question the generosity of the move. The larger issue here is whether or not he falls into a habit of being a benefactor for many doctors in need. He’s got plenty of money, but the more he donates and the quicker that some of that said money will run dry.
Still, we have a hard time objecting to seeing Colin Donnell’s character showing off more of his charitable side. If it’s helping him get through his breakup with Robin than certainly more power to him!
As for Dr. Halstead’s problem…
He’s got one that is a little more personal to his day-to-day life. After trying to win Dr. Manning’s son over with gifts he got pelted in the face with a toy. Basically, the fear that he now has is that the kid doesn’t like him and won’t ever come around to him. That’s a legitimate fear and also a reason for concern, mostly because there is nothing more that Will would like than to be a father figure to this kid someday.
Natalie tried to reassure him that all will be okay in the end, but will it?
Other struggles at the hospital
The person that we felt for the most tonight was Dr. Choi, who did everything that he could to help an anorexic patient who was, unfortunately, unable to help herself. He and Dr. Charles eventually hit a legal wall that wouldn’t allow them to keep trying to make her better. As a result of this the patient ended up dying and he struggled to cope with what could have been.
For Dr. Reese, meanwhile, she simply struggled with the realization that she was not altogether 100% dealing with some of the issues she suffered from prior to her suspension. This is an ongoing process for her and Dr. Charles made that clear. The good thing for her is that she has someone like Daniel nearby who will help her, look after her, and do what he can in order to ensure that she does not fall into some of her old habits.
Final Verdict
Another very good Chicago Med episode, and we like that the series is focusing on some long-fascinating elements to some of these characters including Dr. Rhodes’ wealth and also Dr. Manning’s son. They’ve always been there, but they have not always been in the spotlight.
