The Good Doctor episode 12 review: Did Shaun Murphy leave?

The Good Doctor

Entering into The Good Doctor episode 12 on ABC Monday night, it certainly did appear as though Dr. Shaun Murphy was ready to move onto other pastures. He made it clear to Dr. Glassman that he was giving him his two weeks’ notice, and he was ready to move forward onto some other ventures. That included him wanting to get out to Hershey, Pennsylvania, a place where he could be close to Lea after her own decision to move there.

Was Lea fully on board with this? Not exactly. Instead, she was nervous. She was concerned over the thought of

Let’s get to the main medical case now at the heart of this story, largely because it may be the greatest one that the writers have done so far. Following the events of “Islands Part 1” where the conjoined twins were separated, there posed a number of other medical dilemmas. For starters, the two really couldn’t live without one another quite like they once wanted. The longer the case went along, the more it was clear that the only way they would be both survive is if they were to get back together. Then, after they were back together, the struggle of Jenny and Katie continued. One of them simply didn’t want to live without the other, but they were also killing each other in turn.

How can you cope with this level of pain, and to go along with it, find a way to move forward? You can’t. This case was one born out of love, but also out of tragedy. It was one of the saddest stories of the entire year for this show, but also one of the best.

After going through everything with the twins, Shaun started to realize more that what he was doing with Lea was only because of her. It wasn’t him. He had to say goodbye to her, and he had to figure out a way to move forward with his life there. It was difficult and it was painful, but that was his life. That was his place.

Other developments

Jessica and Neil’s personal life hit a huge snag tonight when she decided to break up with him, mostly because he wanted kids and she didn’t. She didn’t want to take that dream away from him and with that, she decided that ending the relationship was the best thing.

Final Verdict

The Good Doctor episode 12 proved to be an emotional punch to the heart in so many different ways. Yet, there was hope — Shaun sticking around offers us that, as do some of the memories he’ll hold of Lea if and when they meet again.
