Outlander notes: Another Golden Globes video, Colin McFarlane’s message, more

Outlander season 4

Who’s ready for another edition of Outlander notes on Tuesday evening? We’ve got a number of different stories to touch on today, and they include everything from a message via new star Colin McFarlane to seeing more of what Caitriona Balfe had to say after walking the Golden Globes red carpet.

Let’s start with Balfe, since we’ve uncovered yet another video her time before the Golden Globes. You can see video at the bottom of this article, and it features a fun back-and-forth with MTV’s Josh Horowitz on the subject of everything from Jamie’s aging glasses to the show’s upcoming fourth season. We don’t exactly think that there is a ton of new information in here that you have not seen already, but isn’t any video from the Globes featuring an Outlander star worth watching? We do like to think so.

Now, Balfe is back in Scotland, and production for the show is going to keep moving right long. There, unfortunately, isn’t another awards show featuring Outlander for some time beyond the upcoming Critics’ Choice Awards (we’ll see what happens there). The cast has no nominations at the SAG Awards and the People’s Choice Awards were moved to later this year. (When it comes to the latter, we’re hoping in advance the show cleans house again.)

Colin McFarlane gives thanks

McFarlane, known for The Dark Knight and many other projects, is officially on board Outlander season 4 in the role of Ulysses. This is an opportunity to see him play a great, memorable character from the Diana Gabaldon books, and we’re certainly looking forward to seeing how he fits into the picture at River Run.

Take a look at what Colin had to say about joining the show below! He joins Maria Doyle Kennedy and Downton Abbey grad Ed Speleers as one of the most notable additions to the show in season 4. We do have a feeling that even more castings are going to be announced in due time — we’re only four episodes into a 13-episode season, after all!

Finally, cheers to The Middle

Someone on the ABC series is clearly a fan of Outlander given that you got a reference to the show on Tuesday night’s new episode … and this is not the only time in which the series has been given a shout-out in some shape or form.

While this may be completely inconsequential, we do think getting a reference on a show that airs on another network is a great feather in Outlander’s cap. It’s a reminder that the show has really immersed mainstream pop-culture.
