Could Black Mirror spin-off series USS Callister happen?
Is it guaranteed? Not so much, but actor Jimmi Simpson’s comments on the subject are absolutely enough to leave you scratching your chin and wondering if this could actually be a thing.
Speaking at TCA (per TVLine) while promoting the upcoming Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G.), Simpson had the following to say regarding the idea of doing more within this fascinating world:
“I’ve heard little buzzes. I’ve heard little buzzes. But I don’t believe anything until I’m working on set … I would love it.”
Given the end of the “USS Callister” episode, we have to imagine that there would be interest in seeing the show continue. That could also allow for more screen time for the excellent Cristin Milioti, and we’re absolutely all about that. If this were to happen, it would be the first official Black Mirror spin-off and it would be happening at a time in which there are a lot of different concepts set in outer space. We’ve got Star Trek: Discovery going strong over at CBS (it already has a renewal for another season) and there is also The Orville still going pretty strong over at Fox.
In the event that a USS Callister series does not end up coming to fruition, we definitely still envision it as possible that there could just be a sequel episode coming on Black Mirror down the line. There is no season 5 at the moment, but the idea of more episode feels fairly inevitable when you are stopping to think for a minute about the talents of writer Charlie Brooker … not to mention the demands of some fans out there to see more of the story.
