Is Gotham cancellation imminent after Disney – Fox deal?

Gotham cancellation

Moving into 2018, there are obviously many questions about the future of a wide array of Fox properties due to the recent, massive Disney deal– whether it be both with film or with television.

Is a Gotham cancellation imminent as a result of this said deal? It’s understandable to be worried, but for the time being the series seems to be unchanged because of the deal.

Speaking per IBT, Fox executives confirmed that the Disney deal is not going to have any bearing on their ability to continue to make DC Comics programming like Gotham, at least for the time being. It’s certainly possible that could change in the future, though, given that the acquisition will probably not take full effect for another year and a half. Come maybe the fall of 2019, we could start to see some larger changes in regards to what is going on at Fox.

For the time being, we do still remain concerned over the future of Gotham regardless of anything that is said at the TCAs … but not for anything pertaining to what’s happening with Disney. It’s more about the ratings for Gotham itself. The show is struggling in its fourth season, and is paced behind several other scripted drama series. Given that it comes from an outside studio and also is presumably pricey to make (filming in New York rarely comes cheap), there are some serious obstacles facing it. Given that there are no plans creatively for season 4 to be the last, what we’d personally love to see is the show figure out a way to get at least one more season — if that does turn out to be the final one, then you do at least have a chance to end things off with a bang. We’re just always going to be a fan of shows getting closure — also, for Gotham it’d be especially cool to see the show and the cast to get a chance to celebrate 100 episodes.
