Feud season 2 to be titled Feud: Buckingham Palace
What’s with the long wait until Feud season 2 comes on the air? Well, there are many things, but how about the official title to tide you over?
It was confirmed today while at FX’s TCA Winter Press Tour panel that Feud: Buckingham Palace is the official name for the follow-up to Feud: Bette & Joan — yet another thing that the Royal Family is probably going to dislike about this show. This is a season that is still in the works, despite there not being a heck of a lot in the way of conversation about if over the past several months.
The reason for this wait is rather simple: Executive producer Ryan Murphy has a wide array of other things on his place. The super-prolific showrunner has season 2 of American Crime Story coming out soon, and to go along with that also has his new series 911 on Fox coupled with more American Horror Story coming up. There’s also another series in Pose that will be coming out on FX in the future.
Speaking per Deadline, Murphy said that he is hoping to start filming the second season later this fall; however, it’s hard to do this sooner than that mostly because of his own schedule. Once he hammers out the precise dates for shooting, he can start to figure out who will play Prince Charles and Princess Diana — the two central figures in this season. He had the following to say about what’s coming up in terms of their story:
“I think having a show called Feud is interesting, because I love when Kathy (Bates, as Joan Blondell) says feuds are about pain. So Charles and Diana’s story literally begins with filing the divorce papers. It’s about that pain of the dissolving of a fairy tale, particularly for Diana. It starts with the filing of divorce papers and takes you up until her death.”
Murphy added that there are roles available for Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon, who starred as Joan Crawford and Bette Davis on the first season.
The big question that we’re admittedly curious about when it comes to the future of Feud is simply this: Is this even going to be necessary after The Crown? We imagine that Feud will go deeper and be a little bit juicier, but we’re not altogether sure we really need a “juicy” version of how someone died.
