True Detective season 3 adds Stephen Dorff as major player
Sources confirm (per TVLine) that the HBO epic is bringing in Dorff in the role of an “Arkansas state investigator whose life and career is heavily influenced over three decades.” Why is that? Much of it could be due to a crime that took place in the Ozarks long before, one that has greatly influenced the region and cast quite a pall on the area as a whole. Similar in some ways to the very first True Detective season, the story in season 3 is spanning multiple decades and looking at the long-term ramifications of a rather devastating crime.
Dorff joins Carmen Elojo and Mahershala Ali as two of the primary cast members. While these two may be somewhat-familiar faces to some out there, CarterMatt would argue that True Detective season 3 is working in a different way than the seasons to air before it. Here, there seems to be so much more of a clear intention on trying to cast actors who fit the characters rather than just swing-and-a-miss big names. Remember Vince Vaughn for the second season? Vaughn isn’t a terrible actor, but he was totally wrong for the character he was cast for in the second season.
We imagine that more names are going to be forthcoming and that True Detective season 3 is going to remain a hot commodity for quite a while to come. After all, who wouldn’t want to be a part of this series?

True Detective season 3 is still a season that is far down the road from premiering on HBO. At the moment it seems as though the earliest we’re going to see the show is winter 2019, but it would not come as a shock that we end up having to wait for either spring or summer instead. The point here is that there is no point in rushing anything along. We’ve seen what happens when they go in that direction and it wasn’t pretty.
