Bull season 2 episode 12 preview: What’s next for Michael Weatherly?
Before we dive into that any further, CarterMatt has the full Bull season 2 episode 12 synopsis below. This serves as a nice baseline for everything that could be coming up after the fact:
“Grey Areas” – Bull takes a psychologist friend, Dr. Donovan Benanti (C.J. Wilson), as a client when the therapist is sued for malpractice following a patient’s deadly rampage. As Bull worries a trial loss could set new precedent regarding doctor-patient confidentiality, he aims to convince the jury that clinicians aren’t directly responsible for their patients’ actions, on BULL, Tuesday, Jan. 9 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
The appeal leading into “Grey Areas” is that it is roughly the same as the appeal leading into most episodes of the CBS series: This represents an opportunity to be a fly on the wall in another important case that Bull is trying to control. This one is clearly centered around whether or not Dr. Benanti was legally obligated to inform others about what his patient was thinking or doing. In the event that he had told someone, he has violated an oath and faces punishment/possible disbarment in that sense. Because he didn’t tell anyone, this patient went and did unspeakable things. This is a difficult case to figure out morally just because there are so many different components to it. There’s the whole nature of what is ethically right, and then there’s the question of what is legally right. While the former may technically be detached from the latter, there is a very close relationship between the two much of the time. While Dr. Benanti may be exemplary at his job, a jury may not look at the ambiguity of what he did or did not do. They may think in terms of platitudes and allow some of that aforementioned gray area to vanish into black and white.
If Dr. Bull wants to win this new case, let’s just say that he is going to need to find a jury full of people who are willing to look the case from a wide array of different angles.
