Mariah Carey lifts New Year’s Rockin’ Eve ratings; Steve Harvey helps Fox
The irony here is that the ratings that CarterMatt has to report on at the moment are for before Carey even took the stage. We do still think that they’re related though, and the presence of such big-name stars in 2017 like BTS and Camila Cabello certainly did not hurt anything. New Year’s Rockin’ Eve ended up posted a 5.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic during the 10:00 p.m. Eastern hour, its final hour before going into the local news and then returning with Carey and the final ball drop.
As for whether or not Mariah will become the Queen of New Year’s Eve and return for a third straight year, why wouldn’t she consider it? Personally, we feel like the producers are going to look instead for a fresh face who can turn up and bring new viewers — it’s going to be hard for the show to top what they had with Mariah this time around.
Granted, they do have a lot of time still to figure this out — think in terms of 364 days.

Who anticipated the first two hours of his New Year’s Eve special to draw a 1.8 rating? This is far better than what the numbers were for when Pitbull hosted the show, and this special was oddly endearing in between the live wedding and whatever it was that Harvey decided to wear for the majority of the night.
We’ve got a pretty good feeling that Fox will keep calling Harvey back to host, just like he keeps getting called for the Miss Universe Pageant even after the disastrous mix-up with the names from a couple of years ago.
