Black Mirror season 5: When could Netflix series premiere, if renewed?
For one, let’s start with the conversation as to where or not there will be a Black Mirror season 5 in the first place. The clear answer there is yes. It feels like a given that Black Mirror will be renewed for more episodes provided that show creator Charlie Brooker still feels as though there are some more stories to tell. Personally, we do think that there is. This is a show that has mesmerized audiences and it’s done so with different standalone stories touching on dark and disturbing themes involving technology – which is something that is ever changing and therefore we could see Brooker having enough material to make new episodes of Black Mirror for his next ten lifetimes.
What probably aids the show moving forward more than anything else is that there is no precise narrative structure that it needs to follow. Every episode can stand on its own two feet if this is what Brooker chooses to continue, and viewers can pop in and start watching at any time. Given the show’s recent reception it’s fairly easy to figure that Netflix is going to want more of the series provided that he continues to want to make it. The real discussion point at the moment comes down to timing.
When could we see more of Black Mirror? Given how late the fourth season is premiering, it feels wrong to think that there’s a way in which a season 5 could premiere in 2018 unless it’s rushed. It’s far more likely that the series would return in 2019, given that this would allow Brooker time to come up with some more stories that are equal to his overall level of talent. With a show like this, really the last thing that you want to do is rush anything along when it comes to the stories. Give things time to breathe and then figure out from there where you want the overall story to go.
