Grey’s Anatomy season 14 debate: How much more Catherine Avery should we see?
Then, there’s also the connection that Catherine has to Richard Webber, who of course has ties to Meredith, who also has ties to Catherine courtesy of her new Harper Avery Award. You can almost use the Transitive Property of Grey’s Anatomy to link one character to another by means that is slightly different than just that all of them are proficient in the medical field. They also are bringing a little bit something more to the table.
So is it possible that we could see something more out of Catherine Avery in the future? What would be fun is to see her come on board almost as a surprising mentor to one of the young doctors, or form a friendship with someone totally unexpected who works at the hospital. If there’s one thing that we know from watching Grey’s Anatomy over the years, it’s that really fun dynamics are created when opposites attract towards each other. We’re not just speaking romantically here — great friendships can be formed by characters who have little to nothing in common with one another. Seeing how that friendship expands/develops is one of the many fun things about the series.
Just in case you’re curious, it certainly seems as though Debbie Allen is game to also bring more of Catherine to Grey’s Anatomy. Speaking to Parade, she explains what she enjoys about the role and how she connects to her:
“She loves her son, Jackson, more than she loves herself. That’s how I love my children. She wants to be a part of Jackson’s life, but sometimes she has to step back—and I have to do that as well!”
We also like to think that it helps Allen’s involvement in Grey’s Anatomy considerably that she is also an executive producer on the show, and a frequent director to boot. She recently helped the landmark 300th episode.
