Is Emily Maynard watching Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s season of The Bachelor?

When will Arie Luyendyk Jr.'s season of The Bachelor start filming?

Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s season of The Bachelor is premiering on Monday night, and it absolutely feels pretty safe to speculate going in that Emily Maynard could end up being a subject of conversation. After all, this is a woman who Arie claims is the last woman he was actually in love with — even if he only knew her for a few weeks and has probably dated people considerably longer since that time. (Just imagine what you would think if you are one of Arie’s other exes and you’re hearing him say some of that in the interviews leading up to this season.)

While it’s clear that there are definitely some feelings that Arie had for Emily, that all seems to be in the past now. Emily (now Emily Maynard Johnson) is now married and has a pretty large family. Is she rooting for Arie to find love? Absolutely, and she noted as much to People Magazine:

“I’ve been rooting for Arie to be the Bachelor since my season ended — he’s a great guy.”

Yet, Emily made it clear to the publication that she doesn’t have any intention of watching the upcoming season, referring to it as TV that probably won’t be watched in her house. To be specific, she says that it would probably be “inappropriate.” We don’t necessarily know about that, but awkward? Absolutely. We can imagine it being more than a little bit strange watching your ex date a lot of other people on a show where you previously dated him. We just feel for Emily given that her Twitter mentions are probably going to blow up almost every week for her during the season. Maybe it’ll be great publicity for her; that’s the best thing that she can possibly hope for through this experience since it’s probably be mostly awkward to hear him talk about her so many years removed from their super-short relationship.

While Arie and Emily do not keep in touch, Arie is close to another former contestant on his season in Sean Lowe. The Bachelor alum, and the only person to marry the woman he chose at the end of the show, has lobbied to get Arie as the lead in the past.
