The Bachelor spotlight: Meet Chelsea Roy, single mom from Maine

Chelsea Roy

Chelsea Roy is one of the contenders on The Bachelor this season and almost from the jump, she’s one of the more intriguing candidates.

For now, we know that Arie has a history of dating a famous single mom in Emily Maynard; Chelsea is a single mom herself. It’s not something that she talks about on her ABC bio but you can see that she has a son over on her Instagram page. While there, you can also see that she’s dabbled in modeling here and there, which is probably one of the reasons that she signed on for the show in the first place. (Hey, there’s nothing wrong at all with having more than one motivation for being on the show.)

There are two other things that make Chelsea stand out.

1. She’s a real estate executive assistant – How many people from real estate are on this season? Did someone in casting just assume that Arie wanted to date someone in his current line of work? You’d get that feeling based on what we’re getting from the crop of women so far.

2. She’s from Maine – Ashley Hebert is probably the most famous franchise alum from the state, but by and large you don’t get that many. This is just fascinating geographically since it’s such a unique part of the country, one that often doesn’t get a whole lot of exposure.

Beyond these two things her bio is relatively tame and boring — she seems nice enough, though, and that is what could give her a chance at winning this season.

Here’s the problem – Since Brad Womack picked Emily years ago, single parents don’t tend to make the final two on seasons of The Bachelor, let alone win. Amanda Stanton is really the last contestant to make it close. We could see Chelsea potentially getting a hometown date, but we’re not sure she’ll be the one for Arie at the end. He really has to convince us that he’s ready to be a father — we know it’s weird to say that because of his past with Emily, but still.

With all of this said, we hope Chelsea sticks around Bachelor Nation after this season and that it turns out to be a positive experience for her.
