Madam Secretary: Is Elizabeth concerned over Dalton’s mental state?
Take a look at the “Sound and Fury” synopsis below:
“Sound and Fury” – After President Dalton hears about a sonic attack at the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria, he thinks Russia is to blame and uncharacteristically threatens them with military force, leaving his cabinet concerned about his mental status, on MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, Jan. 14 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Christine Ebersole guest stars as Lydia Dalton, the president’s wife.
When the show returns Elizabeth will make the Vice President feel threatened as Elizabeth grows in popularity for a run at the presidency and in the episode following, President Dalton is going to be questioned. Dalton has always been one to rationally weigh every option when the US is involved in an international problem, so it would be out of character for him to start making spontaneous decisions. Will this further make Elizabeth seem like a potentially good candidate for president? If Dalton’s party and staff will begin to question his mental state, then the popular Elizabeth would seem like the logical candidate. However, this could cause problems for Elizabeth, just like it will with the Vice President.
In addition, it should prove interesting to bring the First Lady into the picture. What will she say about Dalton’s questionable mental state? Maybe that’s why we are seeing her for the first time. EP Barbara Hall decided to bring her in now for a reason so the question remains: Why? Our guess is to show that aforementioned mental state. Is President Dalton sick with some type of medical illness? He could. Maybe he will develop a tumor and because of it he is acting irrationally. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time this happened to a character. On the other hand, it could just be people biting at the bit too soon. Maybe President Dalton for whatever reason is taking this sonic attack personally. It could bring back memories from his days in the CIA. Either way, this particular international issue is one that will get under President Dalton’s skin and we hope that Elizabeth will uncover the reason in order to ensure people he is perfectly fine. However, if something really is wrong with the President we can’t wait to see how Elizabeth will handle it.
