Agents of SHIELD season 5 episode 5: Is Fitz in the future?
Sure, we knew that Fitz would eventually meet up with Daisy / Quake based on the ending for this past episode, but it was hard to imagine it happening in any way that was similar to what we had in the episode tonight. There were a few different moments in here that ranged from lovely to surprising to sad.
1. Fitz’s guilt – While he may not have been truly himself within the Framework, through this episode you got the sense that Fitz is still harboring and feeling tremendous guilt over what happened there. He will eventually have to figure out a way to move past it but it’s hard when so much of the team he knows and cares for is gone. He’s now a man completely adrift, unaware of how he is going to get himself back to the team he cares about or the place he was one.
2. Lance’s return! – There were many fun moments that came out of seeing this character and Lance Hunter together again after he was last on the show in season 3. Lance proved essential in helping Fitz eventually make it back into the facility he had originally escaped from.
3. A sense of purpose – When we see Fitz in the future, he seems determined to do almost anything that he needs to do in order to get the team back — including be a different person than who he really is. We like to think of the ending as a reminder of how much he really does care for Simmons and everyone else … and why he feels like he needs to make things up to them in some way.
