Dear Starz and Sony: Our Outlander season 5 Christmas wish

To everyone at Starz and Sony

Happy holidays! It’s a wonderful time of the year — fireplaces are going, everyone has a hot cocoa in hand, and there are many eager Outlander fans out there waiting for a certain press release to turn up inside their stocking. We’re not sure if you have the ability to send a note up to the North Pole, but if you can send one over the next few days we would love to get that season 5 renewal! Isn’t that better than any football, BB gun, or that toy everyone wanted from Jingle all the Way?

CarterMatt likes to think that the Outlander community have been very good this year — the show won numerous People’s Choice Awards, countless fan polls, and not to mention enormous crowds at San Diego Comic-Con. Viewership was higher than ever both in terms of live totals and DVR ratings. There were many custom hashtags, huge social-media campaigns, and patience beyond measure through a very long Outlander hiatus before getting to season 3. There was so much patience, in fact, that everyone was able to withstand having to wait an extra week for the Print Shop scene without throwing lumps of coal at any windows.

There is no better gift for the Outlander fan this winter than a reminder that a season 5 will be coming — sure, we know it wouldn’t air until (at the earliest) 2019, but sometimes the biggest gift is just having something to look forward to. The anticipation alone makes the holiday season so much fun! It would be another wonderful holiday treat to celebrate as a fan base, and we’re sure that all of the hard-working elves behind the scenes of the show would rejoice in having plenty of time to plan ahead as to what the season 5 story would be.

Just think of all the good tidings a renewal could get you! There are more People’s Choice Awards coming (even though they’re far later in the year than usual), there are other series on Starz Outlander fans can help promote (like Counterpart!), and it would certainly drive more engagement to have people already looking towards the future. We hope it’ll make it to season 10 and tell the entire Diana Gabaldon story, but we’re not asking for that much right now … just a season 5. Give fans the gift that keeps on giving. We already know that there are visions of sugar-plums and season 5 scripts dancing around in the writers’ heads.

Even if there is no press release in our stocking this year, don’t worry: We’ll still love you and you’ll remain on our nice list. We just can’t help wanting that extra tiding of comfort and joy this year.
