The Punisher season 2 renewal official at Netflix

Punisher season 2 renewal

If you’ve been waiting for The Punisher season 2 renewal to happen over at Netflix, the time for waiting is done!

Today, the streaming provider officially confirmed that their Marvel collaboration, which stars Jon Bernthal as the title vigilante, is going to be coming back for a second season. This news comes after the show got off to a much-publicized start last month and has continued to draw a great deal of attention ever since.

As with the vast majority of the other shows on Netflix, it’s almost impossible to gauge the actual popularity of The Punisher. The streaming provider doesn’t provide much in the way of accurate ratings metrics. There was never really any doubt here, though, that the series would comeback. This is a show that drew a ton of buzz before it premiered and Netflix has yet to not renew any of the shows from their own Marvel universe. Daredevil has a third season coming out at some point in the future, whereas Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage all have second seasons that are also coming up in the future. These shows will likelygo on for as long as there is good story and the people involved want to do them. We’d be surprised if they go on to have some sort of crazy run as in eight or ten seasons, but they probably do have many years left.

The appeal of The Punisher stems mostly from the fact that this is the rare chance to see a superhero show fronted by a character who is as cold and unhinged as Frank Castle — basically, someone who is not a superhero at all. It’s dark, gritty, and at times even horrifying. The success of this show and some other adult comic-book content do show perfectly the sort of market that is out there.

As for when new episodes of The Punisher will premiere, it all depends on the writing and filming process. We’d personally be shocked to see the series back on the air until 2019.
