Chicago Med season 3: How much Dr. Latham will you see?
The good news is that you’re not done seeing Essandoh on Chicago Med after seeing him pop up through the first couple of episodes this season. The bad news is that he is recurring; with that, you’re never going to have him for an entire season and his schedule is always dependent on his work elsewhere. Essandoh is a series regular on Altered Carbon, the new Netflix series which you can read more about over here. With that, executive producer Diane Frolov told CarterMatt at One Chicago Day that the plan, (at least for now) is to be able to use the Dr. Latham character until around episode 14. Presumably, that’s around when he could be required back on Altered Carbon in the event there are more episodes to film.
Fellow EP Andrew Schenider also told us that they can still “get [Essandoh] out for a day or two occasionally” so even in the event Altered Carbon is renewed, there’s still a chance you could see Dr. Latham later on in season 3. He was able to turn up in the season 2 finale despite being incredibly busy at that time.
Based on where his story is at the moment, Dr. Latham is thrust into a difficult position. He is fairly close — or at least as close as he can be — to Colin Donnell’s character of Dr. Rhodes. Yet, Dr. Rhodes is in the midst of a deep personal struggle given that his struggles at home caring for Robyn are impeding on his work. To go along with that, he’s also having a difficult time dealing with an intense rivalry with Dr. Ava Bekker that is only getting increasingly contentious with each passing day. You can even see in the promo here that this rivalry could end up causing Rhodes and Bekker a patient.
