Shooter season 3 renewal confirmed by Ryan Phillippe
Phillippe claims that production on the latest batch of episodes will kick off in January, and according to TVLine we’re looking at a longer batch of episodes than usual. Season 3 will apparently consist of 13 episodes, a move to help compensate in part for what was a shorter season 2. Phillippe’s real-life injury caused production on season 2 to shut down early, which left the story on much more of a cliffhanger than what may have been originally planned. The challenge for season 3 is now wrapping up some of the second season story and then carrying things over to a story that will be every bit as compelling in its own right.
To date, we’d argue that the journey of Shooter has been somewhat tumultuous, and a good chunk of that began when the show was originally delayed following the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando. The subject matter here is controversial, and unfortunately due to real-life events we don’t see that changing. As a show itself Shooter is intense and features some great performances; we’ll just have to see if the third season lives up to what we saw the first two times around. It’s one of the most action-heavy shows out there and one of its strengths is finding a way to tell stories that feel organic to what is going on in the real world — while still being separate enough that it doesn’t trigger any memories of one specific event. It’s a delicate line that the series has to walk.
Based on when season 1 was originally planned to premiere coupled with when season 2 did premiere, we anticipate at the moment that Shooter season 3 is going to be premiering on USA in the summer. We’re still months out from USA making that announcement, so for the time being the best advice we can offer is to stay tuned.
