The Big Bang Theory season 11 episode 9 video: Why is Penny a waitress again?
However, there’s something a little bit different going on here. This episode, (entitled “The Bitcoin Entanglement”) is going to throw you seven years into the past to focus on a secret about Leonard and Penny’s relationship. Finding out about this should be interesting! We don’t want it to be something so drastic that it changes the canon of the show significantly, but simultaneously it does need to be something that makes this entire story worthwhile.
One way or another, it’s interesting to flash back in the sneak peek to the days when Penny worked at the Cheesecake Factory, she was a terrible waitress, and she was still trying to be an actress. Meanwhile, Raj was struggling at the time to communicate with women in any way other than by nodding or whispering to his friends. Much of this worked in the earlier part of the show, but in reflecting on it now it makes sense that we’ve evolved from this. Nobody wants to see the same thing play out on the show time and time again, and while the early days of the show were fun, the show has grown into so much more.
As for if anything at all in this sneak peek matters to the larger context of what lies ahead, it’s hard to say that it will; yet, we do think there’s some good content in here just for the sake of reminding us of what the show was. Given that there are so many episodes of the show a season, we appreciate the tinkering with the format. It’s much better to do something like this than just having some sort of walk-down-memory-lane clip show that feels better as a DVD bonus feature.
The other story for the episode is pretty simple: Sheldon’s going to be annoyed after he is left out of a bitcoin investment — and, of course, he’s going to have something to say about it. That’s just his way.
