Poldark season 5 still likely series’ end, says Aidan Turner

Poldark season 5

While a Poldark season 5 is not 100% official at the moment over at BBC One, signs still point to it being the end of the road.

Many of these signs are coming from none other than series star Aidan Turner. He appears to be interested in covering the remainder of the Winston Graham books, but after that he is calling it a day and moving on to some other things. Check out a little bit more of what he had to say recently in a new interview with the Daily Mail:

“We’ve covered all the books, and the entire stories. It’s a five-year gig, when it’s all done.”

These comments should not come as much of a great shock given that Turner has said previously that he planned on the fifth season of the show serving as the end of the road. He is just remaining consistent with everything that he has said previously and seems to be ready to move forward to the next project after this one wraps up.

Also, you don’t want to extend the show longer than the natural shelf life based on the books. To begin with, a Poldark season 5 would likely contain some sort of massive time jump of well more than ten years. That’s almost becoming tradition for this show, given that the upcoming fourth season is poised to have some sort of enormous time jump of its own. These leaps ahead in time serve as a chance to bring the Poldark family to a new place; from there, the opportunity of course exists to feature new conflicts and threats that all of the characters are going to have a chance to experience.

By the end of season 4, hopefully we’ll get a hint or two as to what season 5 looks like — we should know for sure as to whether or not we’re getting it prior to season 4 premiering given some of the past renewal patterns of the network. Turner saying that this is a “five-year gig” also seems to negate the possibility of the show taking an extended break so that the actors can get older.
