Longmire season 6 episode 8 review: Who is Cowboy Bill?
On Longmire season 6 episode 8, one of the larger storylines of the season was resolved — yet, there are some other ones still dangling as we await what feels still like an uncertain conclusion.
The big revelation in this episode is that the identity of Cowboy Bill, the notorious bank robber who’s been terrorizing the region as of late, has been officially uncovered. Who is it? Well, it’s not Reggie as The Ferg suspected. After he noticed a few things that were suspicious about Meg’s ex-boyfriend, he let the evidence and his jealousy get in the way of his better judgment — and while he was supposed to be suspended for shooting Eddie Harp, no less. Walt didn’t come down too hard on Ferg for being wrong, but he may not need to given that his relationship with Meg is in some jeopardy instead. He’s being punished enough for letting his paranoia completely overwhelm him.
The true identity of Cowboy Bill is Bob, a man with motives equal and greater to Reggie. He’s also been unemployed and in need of money; yet, this time around it was in order to pay for rehab. He wasn’t someone out to necessarily kill anyone, but wanted to get the money however he could regardless of the consequences. The confrontation was powerful even in spite of the fact that Bob wasn’t even carrying around a loaded weapon for the majority of the time that he was in that bank.
With Bob’s arrest, the Cowboy Bill saga has come to an end — but unfortunately for Walt, there is still another issue coming with taking down Shane Muldoon. Despite Jacob Nighthorse tipping him off to Shane while in prison, Walt wasn’t quite able to secure him. Instead, Shane used his FBI mole in order to create a smokescreen and keep him (for now) from getting everything he wanted with both him and Malachi. All he has is Jacob, who for now seems like little more than a business titan who resorted to desperate measures when Barlow Connally and Tucker Baggett died. That doesn’t bode well for Walt’s future in solving this case.
We will say this — with all of the time that they spent together Longmire season 6 episode 8 was definitely the best one of the season for Walt / Vic ‘shippers. If they end up together, we like how the series is pacing it in a way that it’s subtle and doesn’t overtake the rest of the show.
Cady in disarray
After her role in the Tate kidnapping last week, she’s facing more challenges at the reservation than ever before. While she may have had good intentions she’s being labeled a traitor, she’s lost her assistant, and clients are dropping like flies. She does have a sudden ally in Zachary, but simultaneously he’s only there because Walt hired him to look after her for the time being.
CarterMatt Verdict
Longmire season 6 episode 8 was another fast-paced, thoroughly entertaining chapter in the Netflix series. We reiterate our main critique — as great as this is, it doesn’t feel like the final season. It just feels like a normal season of Longmire. While we love the show, it does raise the question as to if we’re going to get an ending that feels like many of the loose ends are going to be tied up.
