Scandal season 7 episode 8 return date for Kerry Washington, cast
The show is going to be coming back to the network — after a very long wait — on Thursday, January 18. Why the long wait? There are a number of different reasons.
1. The interest in having the episodes air as a straight run – While nobody likes long hiatuses, everyone also dislikes getting a new episode one week, a repeat the next, a new episode the following week, and then a few more repeats here and there. Airing new episodes during Thanksgiving and the holiday season can often amount to chaos.
2. Allowing production to get ahead – Unless Scandal were to start filming a couple of months earlier than they do, it’s be harder for the show to air all of the episodes in a row without any interruption.
3. Airing new episodes when there are a lot of viewers around – Let’s face it. There are a lot of prospective viewers around in January or February. People are bored and there are very few holidays getting in the way (just they Olympics next year).
As for what we want to see when it comes to the story of the remaining episodes, there should be a sense of significant tension. We’re getting into what is going to be the home stretch of the entire series and with that comes more questions, more surprises, and hopefully some sort of essence as to what Olivia Pope’s future could look like. We’ve already come to peace with the idea of Vermont as a fantasy for her — one that she may claim that she wants but wouldn’t actually know what to do with if she had it. Olivia likes being in the center of the action, she likes power, and she likes control. Removing that from her just seems like a recipe for disaster.
The one thing we do want from Kerry Washington’s character is some sort of understanding that she can balance out power with having an actual life. Despite her descending into darkness, we still want to root for her to make it through to the other side without just looking like Rowan 2.0.
