Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers episode 9 preview: Did Ryan screw up?

Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers episode 9

For most of Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers to date we’d argue that Ryan Ulrich has played a pretty pitch-perfect game. He’s found advantages, built alliances, and made sure that there are always targets around him. He’s the sort of superfan player who comes out and really plays the way you would want most diehard fans to play.

Now that we’ve said all of this, there’s a reasonably good chance that Ryan, (moving forward into this coming episode) is going to find himself getting into some deep trouble for a number of different reasons. Namely, he tells more people than he really should about his hidden immunity idol — namely, he tells Ben! In these sort of situations there should really just be one person that you decide to clue in on this sort of plan (Devon), and he deviated from that a little bit by letting someone else in on the secret. That’s problematic given that he’s now in a position where more people know and that means he has to do a little bit of backpedaling. If we were Devon, we’d have a hard time trusting him again. This plants that seed of doubt and that’s a difficult hill to climb.

As for what else is important in this coming episode, a big part of that has to do with the status of Joe in the game. The merged tribe surprisingly opted to get rid of Desi over Joe, clearly thinking of her as more of a physical threat and less of a pariah in the game. Can Joe figure out a way to weasel his way out of this situation? As of right now it’s hard given that the majority alliance feels tight and Joe doesn’t have any advantages to play. We’re not ruling the guy out, though, largely because he can still win immunity and there’s a chance that someone like Ryan overplays his hand to such an extent that he becomes the target.
