Should a Vice Principals season 3 happen someday?
In terms of pure entertainment alone, we would almost certainly want to get more of Neal Gamby and some of his antics. While the HBO show may be somewhat polarizing at times — there are parts of the series that even we are not altogether fond of — this is also still a show that does many things right. It is absolutely hilarious, completely absurd, and it has many memorable characters you don’t see anywhere else. Gamby himself is an unusual leading man: A brash, often-self-obsessed man who does have a heart of gold beneath all of the bluster. Meanwhile, Lee Russell is one of the most angry and insecure characters CarterMatt has seen in recent comedy history. There are many fantastic people from top to bottom on this show and there are, (in theory) many more great stories that could be told.
Herein lies the kicker, though — there is really no clear reason for there to be a Vice Principals season 3 coming up in the near future. This show was always designed for it to run two seasons and that was it. As a result of this, our current projection is that all of the major loose ends on the show are going to be tied together at the end of the finale. There won’t be any more story to tell unless Danny McBride comes up with something new down the road.
With a show like this, it’s best to never say never in regards to more episodes down the road. Even if there are no plans for a third season of the show, who knows what will happen in a year or two? It’s possible that over time more viewers discover the show and huge groundswell of support happens around it. This is one of the great things about a network like HBO — they are open to revivals and make it very easy for viewers to find their shows and catch up on them down the line.
