Gotham season 4 episode 7 review: Who’s severing Jim and Harvey?

Gotham season 4

At the start of Gotham season 4 episode 7 we saw one thing above all others for the characters of Jim and Harvey: Tension. These two men were at odds following the reveal that Penguin was bank-rolling Harvey. It explains much of his stance towards him so far this season.

These two men definitely have plenty of issues that they need to work through, but at the same time there were plenty of distractions to keep the two occupied. For one, there was the Professor Pyg investigation, and that escalated into a search through the Narrows — the poorest, worst part of the city. This was a nightmare for Gordon. These are not people with an interest in talking to the cops, but what made this interesting is that Penguin’s people and the GCPD had the same priority here. They just chose to go about it in different ways. Oswald’s crew, (including his new right-hand man while Zsasz is missing in action) chose to be the bad cops — threatening people with their lives for information. Jim, meanwhile, was the good cop trying to get information in his own way.

In the end, the two groups did get the necessary information to move forward. They found some of the cops (one living, one dead — one was still missing), but unfortunately what they haven’t found Professor Pyg. There’s a bit of a challenge in finding someone when you can’t see their actual face.

At one point in the episode we started to wonder if Professor Pyg was actually going to appear in the flesh tonight — well, that changed at around the 38-minute mark when he and Jim shared a phone conversion and Pyg started to threaten him. The big twist? The identity of Professor Pyg may just have been the cop Jim rescued earlier in episode. He thought that he had figured it all out, but there was one key person in opposition of his theory that they were being set up with a false pretense that Pyg was inside a nearby building: Harvey. He didn’t think that he was on the money here, and it led to one of the larger standoffs between the two characters this season. All of that tension from earlier reached a boiling point.

As it turns out, Harvey really should’ve listened to Gordon, since they charged into the building and Pyg wasn’t there. Instead, they found the last missing officer and Bullock shot him by accident. He survived, but that didn’t make Harvey feel any better.

Do you know who else was unhappy? Oswald, who decided to kill his new second-in-command for making the wrong move in going along with Bullock.

Meet Grace

While Bruce was at a party, (one in which he was lashing out and refusing to do anything that required him to represent the Wayne family in the most desirable way) he ended up running into a former classmate. Was she all that she was cracked up to be?

At first, this just seem to be just some typical teenager antics. He met some of Grace’s friends, and they turned out to be tools — you could tell that Bruce wanted to beat the snot out of them (he even thought about it), but contained himself instead. Probably the right move there. Instead, he got his revenge in a rather entertaining way, buying a nightclub right before he entered it and banning one of the toolboxes from coming in. This is apparently what you do when you’re a teenager with a ton of money. He kissed Grace, got drunk, and partied at his new club. This is not the same guy who was being a vigilante a little earlier in the season, that’s for sure.

The latest from the Sirens

In the aftermath of Ra’s al Ghul apparent death last week we saw the three embark on a new mission: An operation to get some quick cash so they could continue to run their business. Selina went full Catwoman (mask included) and the three seem primed to start their own business without any backing.

CarterMatt Verdict

This episode showed itself to be dramatic and Professor Pyg remains an interesting character. The story of Jim and Harvey was fantastic when you think for a moment about their trust issues; however, we’d say that Bruce hanging out with some teenage idiots and Grace (who seems nice enough) leaves something to be desired.
