The Last Post episode 6 (finale) spoilers: What lies ahead; future hopes

Last Post episode 6

The Last Post episode 6 is coming onto BBC One in just seven days, and this is more than your standard episode of TV. This installment, after all, marks the big season 1 finale for the show and beyond this, the future for the series is up in the air.

Through the past five episodes, we’ve seen that life for these Royal Military Police officers is incredibly difficult and understandably so. They’ve found themselves uprooted and are working within Yemen. It’s a different part of the world and while there, they have found their lives threatened and their relationships tested. We wish that we could say that this is a story with a happy ending, but unfortunately even today you see Yemen in the headlines and not always for the best reasons. It, unfortunately, remains a hot-button discussion for many politicians. Unfortunately, some of the larger political narratives likely do overshadow the fact that there are many wonderful people there — we like to think that a series like The Last Post works to illuminate this more.

As has been the tradition for much of the season, the BBC is not giving much away about The Last Post episode 6 in advance beyond the synopsis below:

Joe’s future in the army hangs in the balance. Armstrong fears for Yusra’s safety. Honor is devastated by Joe’s secret past. Markham struggles between duty and his own moral compass.

Joe’s current present and future are going to be threatened on this episode on many fronts and for Markham, the struggle here is defined in part by his experiences since the start of the season. It’s no longer a situation about being a stranger in a strange land. There is a better understanding now of the environment and with that, there are questions as to whether or not you can really follow orders the same way that you once did. These are the moral issues that make this series so interesting.

So will there be a future for The Last Post beyond this episode? For the time being trying to get information on that subject is rather difficult. No one within the BBC camp has confirmed that there will be a second season, but at the same time we also have not heard anyone mention that the show is for certain a limited series. Once we have more information on that we will have it here for you at CarterMatt.
