‘Shiptober: The MacGyver season 2 future for Bozer and Riley

Mrs. Carter: Bozer and Riley may be one of our favorite primetime ‘ships out there — and it’s one we hope to see more of on MacGyver season 2!

For the time being, though, it’s probably fair to say that this relationship is still somewhat in its formative stages. Bozer is into Riley, and he’s made that clear in just about every way that he possibly can. However, so far Riley hasn’t shown her feelings to the same extent. Do we think that she cares about him? Definitely, but we’re not sure those feelings have gone to the level where she is considering her feelings seriously.

In this edition of our ongoing CarterMatt ‘Shiptober series, let’s look into this a little more!

If you want to go back to the biggest moment the two of them have had in terms of expressing feelings, it was mostly on Bozer’s end after the Hawaii Five-0 crossover. He couldn’t understand at the time why she would want to flirt with a guy that she met out there, especially when he was nearby and clearly interested. Our answer is fairly simple: She’s just not there yet. The character that Riley has been established to be on the show is someone who has went through her fair share of troubles in the past, and clearly has some of her walls still put up. It’s probably harder for her to see Bozer as a viable partner just because he’s so closer to her and could force her to break down some of those walls. They also already have a friendship and she could feel insecure that if something were to go wrong, that friendship could be ruined. They’ve certainly posed as a couple before, and while we found that fun we’re not sure Riley felt the same considering the circumstances.

Is there going to be a chance for the relationship between the two to see the tide turn? Probably, but it requires one thing more than anything else: Patience. This is a show that is treating their relationship like a slow burn — they get you on board with the idea of them together now so that down the road you absolutely want to see it happen at all costs. For now, the relationship / flirtations on Bozer’s part are mostly comedic and provide a source of levity to the show — down the road, maybe that changes somewhat, but even if they do become an item we still see the humor as a crucial part of their DNA. What makes them attractive as a couple is simply the idea that they are such polar opposites in some ways in terms of their interests — yet, they both care about those close to them and have the same goals anytime they’re off on a mission.
