The Flash season 4: Are we getting more of Neil Sandilands’ The Thinker?
To date, what we know about this character is reasonably limited other than that he is the smartest human being alive. We know that whatever he is doing right now he is doing in secret. Has he been a meta-human ever since the particle accelerator, or were some of his powers born from something else? Within the context of the show itself there are still some pretty significant mysteries around this guy and we’re waiting to still get something resembling cohesive answers on the subject.
The other main thing that we know at the moment is that this character seems to be well on his way to being a significant thorn in the side of Barry Allen, as per the warnings last season. We’re just not there yet. We could potentially see more of him during tonight’s episode, at least given the fact that The CW actually gave us a promotional photo of the character for the first time. (If nothing else, at least you’re going to get another minute or so of him!) He’ll be joined once more by his partner-in-crime The Mechanic, who seems to exist mostly for the purpose of being able to help ensure that he achieves as many of his goals as he possibly can.
If we don’t get to see a whole lot more of the character for whatever reason, rest assured that we will in due time. After all, we should have an opportunity to see more of him by around the time we come to the end of the first part of the season — this is often when many CW Big Bads do tend to rise to prominence and gear up for the second batch of episodes coming not too long after that. The challenge for the writers is mostly just finding a way to implement The Thinker in a way where Barry doesn’t just run, find him, and immediately throw him into jail. He is no physical batch for The Flash or any of the other characters in STAR Labs. The only thing that The Thinker probably has going for him is that he has probably set up his lair in such a way that it is protected from most of the powers our heroes could use in order to track him down.
