The Voice season 14: Alicia Keys joins Kelly Clarkson on coaching panel

Voice season 14

The Voice season 14 officially has its full roster of coaches finalized, and it looks like Alicia Keys is coming back to the NBC show!

Today, it was confirmed in the newest video (see below) that Keys will be returning to the series for the first time since winning with Chris Blue back in season 12. She will be joining Kelly Clarkson, who leads off the video, and then also series staples Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. If the chemistry between everyone is even remotely close to what we’ve got in this new video we have a pretty good feeling that we are in for a good time. We’ve been excited for Kelly for quite some time (she has great candor and a perfect personality for this show — plus a longtime friendship with Blake) and Alicia showed long before ever appearing on this show that she was credible and was going to be able to help contestants.

In a statement confirming the big news of the Voice season 14 coaching panel even further, NBC alternative programming head Paul Telegdy had the following to say:

“We are thrilled to welcome back Alicia’s positive energy, competitive spirit and sheer talent. She brings unparalleled expertise and has proven she knows how to help artists win … The chemistry between Alicia, Kelly, Adam and Blake will make for a wildly unpredictable and compelling season 14.”

Are there any other changes needed?

As stoked as we are about the roster for The Voice season 14, there are a few other things that need to be considered with this show at this point in its run. We’re not disputing the success of the Blind Auditions given that we do think they work by and large — it’s a cool gimmick that sets The Voice apart from the competition. However, the middle rounds are in desperate need of an overhaul and we would do almost anything to cut down on those and have more live shows on the other side. If The Voice does want to actually have a successful winner after the fact they need to figure out more ways to allow the public to get to know the contestants — seeing them perform live and getting more unfiltered looks at them is a very good way to do that.

We’ll see what happens on The Voice season 14 when it does premiere on in the new year — we absolutely envision that there’s going to be more to discuss at CarterMatt between now and then beyond just the coaches. (We certainly hope that there is since this is a show that does tend to bring a lot of different stuff to the table.)

What do you think about Alicia coming back for The Voice season 14?
