Supernatural season 13 spoilers: Jim Beaver return possible

Is a Jim Beaver return on Supernatural season 13 possible? Based on some current evidence that we’re getting it’s actually more than that. It seems more that it is something that all of the powers that be on the CW series are very much intent on making happen at some point before the season comes to a close.

In speaking on the matter to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer and character namesake Robert Singer makes it clear that one of the characters he and the show are eager to get back is Bobby this season; just as we’re going to be seeing more of Kevin in some shape or form (maybe the apocalypse world?), it also makes sense that we could see someone like him again.

Fellow executive producer Andrew Dabb echoes this, as he has the following to say on the subject:

“Moving into the middle [and] the back-half of the season, we plan to do a lot more exploring of the apocalypse world: What it looks like, what it is, how angels live there, how demons live there, how people live there, [and] hopefully another check-in with Bobby Singer down the road, maybe some other people as well.”

Ultimately, we do remain every bit as conflicted about a Jim Beaver return as we have ever been. There is no questioning the talent and joy that Beaver brings to the role — he is one of the best actors that the show has ever had. Yet, we would also argue that the way in which Bobby died the first time on Supernatural is arguably the most poignant and perfect way in which we’ve seen a character go on this show since the inception. As a result of that it is hard to see the character brought back time and time again since it makes what happened there feel a little less poignant than it otherwise may have been.

This is one of this instances that you really have to have a little bit of faith in the writers to do the right thing — if they are going to be trying to bring back Bobby for some sort of run we only hope that they do so in a way that pays proper tribute to the character and isn’t just exploitative for the sake of getting old-school fans to watch again who may not have seen the show in a while.

It all boils down to this: Let’s just hope that a Bobby return, if it happens, does the character justice and reminds us once more of why we love him so much. We don’t want it to be forced or shoehorned in there just for the sake of someone who wants a cameo from the character.
