Outlander season 3 episode 5 photos feature Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, Christmas

Will the new Outlander season 3 episode 5 photos have you ready to celebrate Christmas … or at least the Print Shop? The bad news is that we don’t have any photos from that big Jamie / Claire reunion just yet; nonetheless, we do have new images from “Freedom & Whisky” that give you a sense of the story leading up to it! If you love Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin, odds are you will enjoy these.

The setting that is meant to be painted in some of these is the holiday season, where Roger Wakefield has arrived from overseas with some sort of big news. Is it information regarding the whereabouts of Jamie? (Note: Everything ahead is speculation! No book spoilers.) You have to consider that likely given that something has to get Claire back to the past in order to find her long-lost love. At the conclusion of episode 4 she was ready to go home and do her best to move on with her life. Or, has it was put in the episode, she needed to stop chasing a ghost. Unbeknownst to her, that Ghost is going to find a way to come back.

Two of these photos serve as reminders that Claire is now back in the midst of her career — she’s doing her best to help others, and burying herself in her work previously did help her to avoid another stress in her loveless marriage to Frank. However, in one of the photos of Claire as a doctor she appears to be lost in her thoughts — is this her debating as to whether or not to seek out Jamie? There is no denying that she could probably do a tremendous amount of good in Boston helping those who need her; yet, at a certain point she does also deserve the opportunity to forget about everyone else and focus in on herself for a change.

On a different note, in one of these photos you see Claire dressed in all black. Is she still mourning Frank in the public eye, or is this meant more to represent the fashion of the times? We’re no fashion historian, so we’ll leave that discussion to you in the comments.

As for Roger and Bree…

Fresh off of their kiss last week you do have to imagine that the two characters are going to be thrilled to see each other once more. The length of their reunion remains to be seen, but as we’ve noted previously these two characters do have an important future together. We’re curious to see how much they are represented on the series whenever Claire does head back to Jamie in the past.
