Chicago Fire season 6 episode 3 spoilers: Matt Casey tension galore

Now that the premiere is over, isn’t it nice to be able to share some details on Chicago Fire season 6 episode 3 — and all episodes in general? For a time, we hesitated on diving too deep into upcoming stories in order to avoid spoilers. While we were hopeful for the entirety of the summer that Matt Casey, Kelly Severide, and many of our other favorites would be back for the new season, we realized that there were no guarantees. Also, what happened with Leslie Shay is proof that this show can be rather shocking when it wants to be in terms of killing people now.

Now, let’s breathe easy for a moment as we look towards the rest of the season.

Episode 6×03 of season 6 is titled “An Even Bigger Surprise,” and this follows along a theme that showrunner Derek Haas told CarterMatt about recently — much of this season will feature conflicts revolving around your real family and your firehouse family. We know already that Donna is an integral part of the story at the moment thanks to what happened at the school, and in this episode you’re going to see the return of Cruz’s brother Leon — plus some more drama with Brett’s friend Hope. Take a look below for some more insight:

“Lt. Casey (Jesse Spencer) gets off on the wrong foot with Sam Mullins (guest star John Gatins), a temporary Chief who is filling in for Boden (Eamonn Walker) at House 51 for the morning. When Casey later makes a risky move in an attempt to save a distraught man from jumping off a building, Mullins has a surprise that Casey does not expect. Mouch (Christian Stolte) flies in Cruz’s (Joe Minoso) brother Leon (guest star Jeff Lima) as a birthday surprise, but the rest of the squad struggles to keep it a secret. Meanwhile, Brett (Kara Killmer) is caught off guard when she learns new information about her hometown friend Hope (guest start Eloise Mumford). Taylor Kinney, Monica Raymund, David Eigenberg, Miranda Rae Mayo and Yuri Sadarov also star. DuShon Brown and Randy Flagler also guest star.”

The idea of Casey clashing with a superior is … well, we’ve seen it before. We do wonder if psychologically one of the reasons that this keeps happening is simply because so many new people within the firehouse world find themselves intimidated by him. This is an accomplished firefighter who has political experience and was recently honored for his work in the factory fire. He’s a man who really has done just about everything that he can to give his all to the job, and he often follows his own rules to get the glory. Maybe some interim chiefs don’t like that they fail to receive any of the glory themselves.
