While we wait for Grantchester season 4 news, James Norton has new project
Do we know that we want more story from this show? Absolutely, and especially when it comes to the sad ending for James Norton’s character of Sidney. While we understand that it may be somewhat unrealistic for every person under the sun to have a happy ending, we absolutely do still want it to happen — the photo above probably is a sad reminder of the way things ended in season 3, so sorry about that.
According to some of what we’re reported already, one of the biggest things potentially holding another season of Grantchester seemingly back is the status of the incredibly-busy Norton, who seems to have new projects lined up everywhere across the board. He is starring in the new movie Flatliners, and now has also (per the Evening Standard) signed up to be in the production of Belleville alongside Imogen Poots. This is a Donmar Warehouse production, and we’re certainly expecting it to be rather popular in the theater circuit.
Why is it important for actors, especially British ones, to continue to embrace this side of the arts? Much of it is tied to their training, and also a culture in the UK that embraces theater more than in America. This is, after all, the birthplace on Shakespeare, and we’ve certainly seen Benedict Cumberbatch, Maggie Smith, and many other actors continue to embrace the stage.
When could Grantchester season 4 happen?
Really, the jury is very much still out on that given that it could depend on not only James Norton’s schedule, but also ITV’s interest and if the story is there. In theory it’s possible that you could continue the series without the Sidney character, but we don’t think anyone would really want that.
One of the most important things to remember here with Grantchester in general is that British series don’t operate under the same timelines as many in America. This is why we do often see shows go away for a long stretch of time and come back later. There aren’t the same limitations put on them, so with that it’s 100% feasible that this show could fall off the map and be revived later. Just stay tuned, and know that we at CarterMatt will give you more news as we have it. We want to see more of this series as much as anyone out there does.
