Game of Thrones season 8: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau not loving multiple endings
Speaking on that subject to Marie Claire recently, the actor made it clear exactly what he thought of the idea, which was initially floated about as a way to further ensure that there are no spoilers running rampant regarding what is going to be happening at the end of the series:
“Do you think that’s true … It seems really stupid to me. I mean if it’s true I don’t believe it, but I don’t know, maybe … I haven’t read the script, so unless they will show several endings that could be a twist, they’re not going to waste that money. They know how expensive it is to shoot. You’re not going to waste $100,000 a day to shoot something you’re not going to use. It’s not going to happen.”
Yes, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has a great point, and while we at CarterMatt would love to spend $100,000 a day on complete nonsense if HBO gave us the money, that’s not going to happen. Why would they burn it on this show instead? Maybe saying that they’re going to do multiple endings is a way in itself to keep the paparazzi at bay.
In the end, though, we do think that most of this talk and the multiple-ending drama is overblown. The biggest thing to remember here is that the vast majority of people out there really aren’t going to care that much one way or another if there are multiple endings shot or if someone out there has spoilers online. They just aren’t going to read that stuff! There are always some naturally curious people who go and seek some of that nonsense out, but so long as they keep the vast majority of it to themselves we really don’t foresee it causing all that many problems for them.
Just look at it this way: There were full episodes of Game of Thrones season 7 pirated online in advance of them coming on the air, and not even that managed to slow anyone down in terms of them checking out the show and watching it. If this isn’t an issue to the average viewer, we have a hard time thinking that some on-set paparazzi are going to be one. Our suggestion is to just be careful where you visit over the coming months — for example, we at CarterMatt aren’t going to be posting any spoilers at all! We’re just as psyched to see the show end as anyone.
