Saturday Night Live: Gal Gadot, Kumail Nanjiani confirmed to host
Today, NBC confirmed that the Wonder Woman star will be hosting the second episode of the year on October 7. Given that she was one of the biggest stars of the summer and had never hosted the show before, it felt like only a matter of time before she got to step into Studio 8H for the first time. She’ll probably spoof her now-famous role, and then also engage in all sorts of other assorted silliness.
Beyond just Gal Gadot, there is also a cause for excitement here in getting to hear a musical performance from Sam Smith for the second time on SNL. He is well-known for his signature sound and emotional lyrics, and we’re curious to see what he’ll be bringing to the table here given that it’s been a while since he was a major part of the music scene.
Now, it’s time to rejoice the news that Silicon Valley / The Big Sick star Kumail Nanjiani is going to be hosting the upcoming October 14 episode of the show featuring musical guest Pink. There’s no point in even trying to hide any bias here, given that Kumail is our favorite comedian and we’ve long found him hilarious, smart, and really relatable. He brings even more diversity to the SNL stage after being born and raised in Pakistan, which is important for bringing new voices to the table. Kumail could bring a lot of interesting ideas to the table given that his knowledge base is so vast in between video gaming, comedy, and current events. (We still miss The Indoor Kids podcast.)
For Nanjiani’s show, he will be joined by Pink, who is coming back onto the sketch show for the third time. She’s the sort of performer who we’re almost surprised hasn’t been on the show more over the years given that she’s very much legendary as a pop artist. She’s had more hits than almost anyone and continues to be a role model for many in terms of confidence and individuality.
These episodes of the show will probably comprise the first little arc of season 43 — typically SNL tends to air its episodes in bunches, and we at CarterMatt wouldn’t be all that shocked to see some sort of a hiatus after this episode until we get to either late October or early November. Time will tell in that regard. For now, we’re just happy that two genuinely talented people, let alone first-time hosts, are getting a chance to show how great they are on the SNL stage.
