Game of Thrones season 8: What’s the new Emilia Clarke – Daenerys connection?
In a new post on Instagram (see below) Emilia Clarke herself confirmed that she is sporting a new blonde hairdo for the first time in preparation for the show’s final season. What does this mean?
1. It’s an homage to her character – In the early days, Clarke relished having dark hair given that she could go out and people would not draw the correlation between who she was and the character on the show. We’re well past the point of no return in that regard now, so maybe this is her leaning into the curb.
2. Some other project down the road – Hey, jobs only last for a certain period of time, and at that point you start to move forward to the next thing.
3. This is meant to be a move to save time during production – This is a theory that we’ve heard bounced around, that Clarke will no longer have to wear that rather-large Khaleesi wig for the final season of the show. Yet, that seems unlikely given that Daenerys’ hair is still so much longer than hers, and trying to match those hues perfectly could cause some serious problems in its own right. Maybe there is some other advantageous way for this to help production, given that doing this hair eats up hours almost every single time. The irony here is that even though there are only six episodes in the final season of the show, Clarke may end up having more screen time than she has at any other point in the show’s run. As we get closer to the end, there is a real tightening of the cast and we’re being left with only the key players and people we’ve really gotten a chance to get to know for some time.
No matter what the reason is for the new look, remember that filming for Game of Thrones season 8 is going to be starting up in the weeks to come! The final season of the show is currently slated to premiere on HBO at some point either in late 2018 or early 2019. There’s still some time for the network to confirm that one way or another.
