Homeland season 7 spoilers: Morgan Spector, Mackenzie Astin casting news
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spector (who has done Person of Interest, Boardwalk Empire, and did voiceover work for Friday Nights Lights) is going to be a series-regular on the Showtime drama here in Dante Allen. He’s going to be someone who Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) has a past relationship with, and he will be responsible here for looking into the 200 people who have been detained following the assassination attempt on President-elect Keane at the end of season 6. She is now officially in office, and her administration is going to do what they can in order to find the responsible party and bring them to justice. Granted, that means sifting through a ton of people!
Meanwhile, you’re going to be seeing Astin, who has appeared in multiple episodes of The Magicians and Scandal, in the part of Carrie’s brother-in-law Bill. He’s someone who has some sort of relationship with her (obviously), and we wonder if he could be the sort of person to be a proper liaison between her position and the administration. Remember how she got shut out at the end of season 6? She may need to look for almost any other way possible to find a way in and have more of her voice be heard. Bill will have departed a prominent teaching job at American University going into the season, and will have an important role in the Keane administration in the Department of the Treasury.
As for what could end up being so fascinating about this role of Bill, one of the biggest things to us is that he could find himself at an extremely difficult position where he has to figure out how much he wants to navigate his family obligations in relationship to his new role within the administration. Is he going to have to find himself picking a side? We certainly do wonder that.
