Game of Thrones series finale will film multiple endings
According to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania’s Morning Call, HBO head Casey Bloys (who is from the area and was speaking at a local college) made it clear shooting multiple endings is the plan for the show to keep some significant series finale spoilers at bay:
“You have to do that on a long show … Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no definitive answer until the end.”
Bloys seems to be undergoing this strategy with a certain degree of realism, understanding that there may be some paparazzi out there who manage to photograph some of the various endings that are being filmed. However, if they don’t know what it is that they are filming, that does at least create a little bit more in the way of ambiguity. They keep people guessing for a little bit longer, and that’s valuable given how long we could be waiting for the series finale to air. Based on some early indications, this final episode may not come on the air until we roll around to either late 2018 or early 2019.
Is there anything else that can be done to negate Game of Thrones series finale spoilers?
It’s going to be tough, given that there are some people out there who will stop at nothing to ruin a show for other people. While we at CarterMatt have already come out very much against the idea of ruining a great TV show, there are other people out there who do profit from it considerably. That’s just the way that the industry works at this point for some sites.
We’re sure from an HBO standpoint that they will make it as hard as humanly possible for anyone to get a hold of scripts, they will hire additional security, and they also will try to protect their investment by forcing extras to sign some of the most extensive contracts known to mankind. Few shows are as secretive as this one.
In the end, though, we don’t think that the Game of Thrones series finale is going to suffer all that much even if some of the story gets spoiled. One of the things that we have realized over time is that even when full episodes of the show leak online, it barely impacts the ratings at all. In the end, real fans of this show would rather watch live on HBO than with some crummy video online that someone taped with their mobile phone. They want the best viewing experience possible and with a show as beautiful as Game of Thrones, we completely understand why.
