Supergirl season 3 promo features Kara vs. Bloodsport

Bloodsport

Who is ready to check out a new Supergirl season 3 promo? CarterMatt has one for you now (via The CW), and it features a villain in Bloodsport.

Based on what we’re seeing here, this DC Comics character (otherwise known as Robert DuBois) could be one of the first opponents that we see in the new season. They seemed prime to cause all sorts of trouble in National City, even though the city does still have its title hero doing her best to protect it!

What we want to know more than anything else is this: Does National City also really have Kara Danvers? While Supergirl’s alter ego is still a part of the show, at the same time there’s no telling just how much of her you’re actually going to see acting like herself. AT the start of the season this could be the darkest version of the character we’ve seen. Remember that Kara lost a great love in Mon-El in the wake of the showdown with Rhea, and once again felt like she had to make a sacrifice for the good of other people. At a certain point, she will wonder if there is any meaning at all to her even having an alter ego when she can’t ever get a chance to live the way that she wants to.

We’re not sure how much you’re going to see of Kara’s inner struggle in the premiere, knowing that we do have Bloodsport to deal with. there is also another interesting question, and that is whether or not the series opts to go more all-out in their presentation of none other than Reign. This character is the Big Bad of the year, but it’s not going to be the same Worldkiller that you know from the comics. She may have some redeemable qualities, but in the end she was brought up for one specific purpose: To destroy. We have to imagine that for her, getting away from that in any shape or form is going to be a substantial challenge. This is a story that could unfold as early as the premiere; we know that Odette Annable is officially playing the part, so for Supergirl the only remaining mystery is figuring out the right time to throw the character out there on the show.

We know that for us at CarterMatt, there’s a good bit to be excited about in terms of the new season. At the top of the list is the simple fact that you’ve got more of the classic heroes vs. villains showdowns that you’ve come to expect at this point. It’s a fun show, and even with some more emotional weight behind it, we hope that it does keep some of that spirit.
