Insecure season 3 premiere date speculation for Issa Rae, cast
Let’s kick things off here by saying this: The Insecure season 3 renewal was confirmed earlier this summer by the network, so that was never in doubt. When you look at some of the ratings, it’s pretty easy to understand why. The show averaged close to 1.2 million viewers, which is a substantial increase from the 410,000 viewers who watched the show on average during its first go-around on the network last fall. We do think that a big reason for the ratings bump was the show airing on the same night as Game of Thrones for most of the season, but we still will point out that this past episode (which aired without the assistance of Daenerys and her dragons) still ended up drawing in around 800,000 viewers. If the show was able to double its audience this season without Game of Thrones being around to depend on, that’s pretty incredible.
Now as for when the Insecure season 3 premiere date could be, what makes that so up in the air is the tendency for HBO to shift around their premiere dates for many of their various shows. There’s not a huge incentive for them to announce a premiere date this early, given that they don’t want to lock themselves into anything given that they could change it up down the line.
For now, we do think it makes sense to keep the show in the summer, given that it performed well here, it has a devoted audience on social media, and Issa Rae has the potential to be a favorite at many awards shows to come. Also, it has a great lead-in right now (aside from Game of Thrones) in Ballers, which is the network’s most-watched comedy series. We did wonder going into the summer if these two shows were the right fit for one another back to back, but they found a way to make it work in spades.
So how long can a show like Insecure last?
We do think that the run is probably going to be similar to another HBO show in Girls in that Rae, like Lena Dunham, is both the star and responsible for much of the creative. So long as the ratings and the quality stay where they are, she will probably determine how long the show remains on the air. Hopefully she does have enough story to tell for a few more seasons, given that we’re not ready to say goodbye to it following season 3. We’d be shocked if it was to peter out in any shape or form within the next couple of years.
