NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 promo: Is a nuclear threat on the way?
We’ve spent a good bit of time over the course of this summer discussing NCIS: Los Angeles from the vantage point of characters, and with good reason given that these are some of our favorite characters in all of crime TV. Plus, they’re all at very different places in their lives. While Kensi and Deeks may be celebrating their engagement, at the same time Sam and Callen are at struggling and the former’s off somewhere living at the beach, not interested in doing much of anything following the death of his wife Michelle. Through the season 9 premiere episode we’ll get a better sense of what Callen is up against in terms of trying to get his partner back in the saddle again and helping him through what is the worst time of his life.
Beyond all of this, there is a threat that could be catastrophic to the entire country, not just the city of Los Angeles. The preview below hints at possible nuclear war, and this feels a bit like art mirroring life. There may not be panic over this in reality, but there have certainly been some fears that have played out over the past few weeks thanks in part to North Korea. The show doesn’t explicitly say too much in the promo in terms of where the threat is coming from; yet, it is pretty darn clear that regardless, it could have some pretty catastrophic consequences if it lands. It’s going to be a race against time in order to ensure that nothing terrible happens, and that may help to explain why there are some reinforcements at the office. Not only is Nia Long making her debut in this episode as Shay Mosley to lead the team for the time being (Hetty is MIA), but you’re also going to see a new agent in Harley Hidoko. It’s possible that she is paired with Callen, or possibly even Kensi if Deeks is summoned back over to the LAPD. This is one story that we’ve seen teased out there that could come with Long’s arrival.
You can see both the Mosley and Hidoko characters above, alongside some old favorites in Eric and Nell. This episode should be a pretty great foundation to what should end up being a fun, dramatic, and also action-packed season. CarterMatt anticipates a few little changes to the format during the premiere, but nothing that necessarily shakes things up in a way that completely alters the foundation of the show. If you’ve enjoyed the past eight seasons, we have a feeling you’ll love the premiere too.
